Let's use all our senses!!! Really? Yes! Especially when we are reading. Let's work on Imagery and Sensory Language! Very interesting week!

This week we continue on geometry! We will find the area of triangles and quadrilaterals. Then we will add our knowledge of equations and solve area and volume equations! Whoa!

This is a review type week. We will show our understanding of a self-selected concept that has been previously discussed in class.

We get into a different topic: factors of production! Let's learn about land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurship. Let's find out how is the land used around the world.

Reading
Our unit on poetry continues at full swing... Now is turn to summarizing, paraphrasing, and synthesizing poetry making sure the poems maintain meaning.

Mathematics
Geometry! We jump into the very famous triangles! We will learn some rules that apply to every single triangle. Rules about their sides and angles. Cool!!!

Science
We will demonstrate energy transformations such as energy in a flashlight battery changes from chemical energy to electrical energy to light energy.

Social Studies
This week we are going to explore all about thematic maps. We will learn about the five different types of thematic maps.

Week of February 16th
Reading
We continue our unit on poetry. This week we will focus on making inferences, and drawing conclusions about the structure and elements of poems.

Mathematics
We are putting together equations and coordinate planes! Real sixth grade stuff!!! We are working on tables and graphs based on equations.

Science
This week we get deeply into the thermal energy. We'll learn that thermal energy is transported through convection, conduction, or radiation!

Social Studies
We continue learning about world conflicts. This week we will focus on Iraq, Iran, the Persian Gulf War, and the War in Iraq.

Reading
Poetry!!! About time!!! It's time to focus on figurative language and stylistic elements! Let's analyze how authors use them to create beautiful pieces of literature.

Mathematics
We will graph points on a coordinate plane in all four quadrants using ordered pairs of rational numbers. Exciting math!

Science
Let's study all different types of energy! We will understand that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change its form. Cool science this week!

Social Studies
We will discuss the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians including the causes along with the resulting actions that have happened since the Jews migrated into Palestinian homeland.

Inequalities!!! Really? We, sixth grades, are working on very serious math... We will add, subtract, multiply, and divide with inequalities.

Pulleys and inclined planes! Simple machines at work. We will learn about mechanical advantage!

Middle East and North Africa. We will analyze how the United Arab Emirates became an industrialized country.

We start our unit on Myths, Legends, and tales! Looking forward for our students to make inferences and draw conclusions about a great Myth!

Pulleys! We will investigate how pulleys can be used to change the amount of force to move an object!

This week we will finish our unit on persuasive techniques. We will also have the opportunity to test our skills taking the District Checkpoint #2!

District Checkpoint!!! We will evaluate our progress in Math. Then, we will continue learning more algebra! It's getting better and better!

This week we will go a little deeper in understanding Force. Also, we will understand how acceleration relates to objects. Finally, we will learn how to read graphs involving motion.

This week we will finish our analysis of Author's Purpose. Additionally, we will use a unit of Media Study to practice our Main Idea identification skills.

We are working all week long with percents, fractions, and decimals! Our class will master the relationship between the three of them. Then... applying those skills to real-life problems!

Minerals!!! All about them! We will review the physical properties of minerals, including hardness, color, luster, and streak.

Social Studies
What is cultural borrowing? Our students will learn about cultural traits. Also, they will understand what happened in the Holocaust. Finally, they will analyze the influence of historical events in the world.

This week we are going to analyze biographies and autobiographies. We will focus on their characteristics and author's purpose.

We close our unit on rates, ratios, graphs, and tables. It's checkpoint week!!! After that, we start working on equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents.

This week is all about physical and chemical changes. We'll conduct a series of experiments to help us grasp these concepts.

We are reading some historical fiction to help us on our inference skills! Then we will read non-fiction texts to review author's purpose and main idea!

This week we go back into ratios and rates! This time we use them to analyze tables and graphs. Later we will work on solving problems with proportions... Cool Math!

We continue our unit on Density, this week concentrating on the use of the Density formula!

We are going to study Poetry! It's probably my favorite genre! I hope we learn a lot together. We'll focus on analyzing theme in poetry.

This week we will reflect on our District Checkpoint performance. We will finish our unit on Rates and Ratios; and finally, we will start comparing Additive and Multiplicative relationships!

This week is all about volume and density! We will put hands on Science. A couple of experiments will help us master these concepts!

We are going to study contributions made by native groups in Latin America. We will also study the Mexican Culture. Interesting!!!

This week we study symbolism, and how authors use symbols in their writing, especially in poetry. We will also learn that the speaker of a poem is distinct from the poet.

This week we are concentrating on the chronological order as a way authors organize their work. We will also review the common purposes authors use in writing.

Now the turn if for the decimals! We are going to multiply and divide decimals and figure out if using fractions or decimals are better when solving problems.

We enter the fantastic world of the atoms! We'll learn about their components and jump into the elements of the Periodic Table!

This week is all about Economy! We'll discuss the different types of economic systems providing examples to fully understand this topic!

We continue analyzing plot elements. This week we put emphasis on setting and conflict. We will finish synthesizing across texts.

This week we will focus on multiplying and dividing fractions. We are going to make a cool project on our iPads.

We will finish the study of Taxonomy, work on biotic/abiotic things and work on the different levels of organization.
